Burke Lake Park (~4.5 mi loop)
This is a flat, woodland trail following the
jagged contours of 218 acre Burke Lake. The hike is a clockwise circuit,
at first paralleling the miniature railroad, then circling to the far
side of the lake to skirt the edge of the campground and an orienteering
course. A natural area harbors a variety of wildlife including beavers,
red fox, deer and muskrats. Vesper Island, visivle for the lake edge, is
a state waterfoul refuge. I-495 to I-66; I-66 west to VA 123; VA 123 south about 9 mi to park entrance on left, just beyond golf course. Follow signs to marina and park in lot. (An entrance fee, $6, is charged seasonally for non-residents of Fairfax County) |

From here you'll follow Danbury Forest Dr. a very short way through a housing and school area. There's a trail marker right infront of the school! Then your right back onto the dirt again. This time more elevated above the lake. Follow the trail down to the damn at the end. Cross over, and your back at the marina From I-95 by take Old Keene Mill Rd. west to right on Hanover Ave. to left on Highland Ave. to right on Accotink Park Rd. to front entrance on left |

Schaffer Farms (mtb) Shaeffer Farms is an extremely popular mountain biking and equestrian destination with several excellent singletrack loops covering almost 12 miles of rolling terrain. Trails offer something for all levels, but tend toward fast and smooth hardpack singletrack, with moderate climbs, and a good number of log and ramped log hops. Some technical sections will require beginners to dismount, but intermediates should find most sections rideable and challenging. Trails can be crowded on weekends, with much lighter use during the weekdays. |
